Back to BasicsFebruary 1984 Our supper club meeting on December 3 with Professor Herbert Grubel was a big success and enjoyed by all. He spoke about the economics of welfare. The speech was followed by a lively question and answer period. Our next supper club meeting will prove to be equally entertaining. Our speaker will be well known libertarian about town, Walter Block. And the theme for the meeting will be "Back to Basics". We have had many non-libertarians attending our supper clubs over the last two years and we thought it would be a good idea to have Doctor Block speak on the fundamentals of libertarianism. We're calling the speech, "Everything You Wanted to Know About Libertarianism But Were Too Coerced to Ask". (Thanks to Peter Walters for this catchy title.) Doctor Block is the Senior Economist at the Fraser Institute. He graduate with a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University in 1972 and has taught Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, Urban Economics, and Political Economy at such institutions as the State University of New York, City College of New York, Baruch College and Rutgers University in New Jersey. He has done research for the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Tax Foundation and Business Week magazine. Since joining the Fraser Institute he has edited and contributed to various Fraser Institute books including Rent Controls: Myths and Realities and Zoning for the 80's. Walter Block is best known in libertarian circles for his controversial 1976 book Defending the Undefendable. The upcoming supper club is an ideal opportunity for you to introduce potential libertarians to our philosophy. We urge you to bring any interested party you know. The Free Man's Library will also have books on sale. See you there!
