Libertarian NotesFebruary 1983 Morley Evans, Chairman of the Canadian Taxpayers Committee will be making a major announcement about income tax at the Supper Club Meeting, March 5, 1983. Ontario libertarians won three municipal elections in November and made respectable showings elsewhere. Sally Hayes, a well-known anti-metric advocate and wife of tax-resister John Hayes, will be on the Peterborough city council for the next three years. Eric Biggins will be a rural councillor in St. Vincent municipality, and Terry Ryan obtained a seat on the Markham separate school board. Frank Abrams failed to win election in Ward 6 of North York, but came second with 35% of the vote. National party leader Neil Reynolds took 4,330 votes, or 13.4% of the total in the October 12 federal Leeds Grenville by-election. Neil came in third after the Conservative and Liberal, and ran ahead of the NDP candidate by 1,600 votes. Clancy Smith, President of the Manitoba Libertarian Association was in Vancouver in January. Winnipeg libertarians are undertaking several projects this month.
