Neil Reynolds

Leader, Libertarian Party of Canada
February 1983

Neil Reynolds, 42, is a newspaper editor who grew up in Eastern Ontario. He was born in Westport, the son of a minister. He has worked on newspapers across Ontario (The Sarnia Observer, The London Free Press, The Toronto Star). For the past six years, he has been editor-in-chief of The Kingston Whig-Standard.

In May 1982, Neil was elected leader of the Libertarian Party of Canada. The LP has a simple goal: it wants government to recognize limitations. It wants only just laws -- and small, humble government. It wants people to live their lives free from oppressive taxation.

Neil began his involvement in politics as a socialist, but because of his exposure to the world as a newspaper man, he slowly became disillusioned and over time left the New Democratic Party to adopt libertarianism.

Neil is fighting for severely restricted government spending and the repayment of the national debt through the sale of government-owned assets; major tax cuts across the board; and an end to special favours by government.

On October 12, 1982, Neil took 4,330 votes, 13.4% of the total ballots cast in the Leeds & Grenville federal by-election.

Neil is currently engaged in a nationwide tour to publicize the LP and to strengthen its base of support. He appears in Vancouver at the Libertarian Supper Club meeting, March 5, 1983. He looks forward to meeting you then.
